Und starb er, wenn der Abend schied Mit goldnem Kusse von den Gipfeln: Nachhallend säuselt noch das Lied Die ganze Nacht in Busch und Wipfeln. O würde mir ein solch Geschick! Dürft' unter Liedern ich erblassen! Könnt' ich ein Echo voll Musik Dem Volk der Deutschen hinterlassen! Doch Größern nur ward solch ein Klang, Nur Auserwählten unter vielen - Mir wird im Tode kein Gesang Verklärend um die Lippen spielen.
