[O]1 schneller, mein Roß, mit Hast, wie säumig dünkt mich dein Jagen! In den Wald, meine selige Last, mein süßes Geheimnis zu tragen! Es liegt ein trunkener Abendschein rot dämmernd über den Gipfeln, es jauchzen und wollen fröhlich sein die Vöglein in allen Wipfeln. O könnt ich steigen mit Jubelschall wie die Lerch empor aus den Gründen, und da droben den rosigen Himmeln all mein Glück verkünden! Oder ein Sturm mit Flügelgewalt zum Meer hin brausen, dem blauen, und dort, was im Herzen mir blüht und schallt, den verschwiegenen Wellen vertragen! Es darf mich hören kein menschlich Ohr, ich kann wie die Lerche nicht steigen, ich kann nicht wehn wie der Sturm empor und kann es doch nimmer verschweigen. So wiss' es, du blinkender Mond im Fluß, so wißt es, ihr Buchen im Grunde; Sie ist mein! Es brennt ihr Kuß auf meinem seligen Munde.
