Ach, van alle beys, van alle Was geen bey als hij. Iedereen in Syrus vraagt nu: 'Was dit Allah's wil?' En in heel Egypte klaagt nu Mens en krokodil. 't Schijnt, aan Daher is verschenen Van zijn vriend het hoofd. Huiv'rend doet hij niets dan wenen, Door verdriet verdoofd.
Aly Bey, vorst der Mamelukken in Egypte, werd in 1773 door zijn gunsteling Abou Dahab verslagen en gedood.
