War einmal ein winz'ges Ding, so ein kleiner Zwitscherling, saß vergnügt auf seinem Aste, sang ein Lied, wie es ihm passte. Sprach die Amsel in dem Wipfel: „Ei, du dummer kleiner Zipfel, wer nicht besser singen kann, der fang' lieber gar nicht an.” Jener ließ sich nicht betören, sprach: „Es braucht nicht zuzuhören, wem mein Liedchen nicht gefällt, groß genug ist ja die Welt, darum lass mich doch in Frieden, mir hat Gott nicht mehr beschieden. Und ich singe früh und spät so, wie mir der Schnabel steht, weil ich lustig bin und heiter; wer's nicht hören will, geh' weiter!”
