Be still, Blackbird!
Language: English
Blackbird, blackbird loudly trilling From my garden’s shade, All the golden days you’re filling With a serenade! When I see your bright eyes glisten ‘Mid the boughs of May, Merry songster, would you listen, This is what I’d say: Be still, Blackbird! Don’t you hear there’s someone calling, Calling in a magic voice? It holds my heart in thrall! Once your music so entrancing Always set my feet a dancing; Now my love is calling With the sweetest note of all! When the blossom-time is over Will you stay with me? Ah! ‘tis easy to discover Your inconstancy. Though you warble gaily near me While the world’s in flower, Love’s own song alone will cheer me Through each winter hour. Be still, Blackbird! Don’t you hear there’s someone calling, Calling in a magic voice? It holds my heart in thrall! Once your music so entrancing Always set my feet a dancing; Now my love is calling With the sweetest note of all!
