Wo bin ich, wo? und was bin ich? Ich bin in Gottes Welt; Ich bin ein Etwas, dem's in ihr So ziemlich noch gefällt! Ein Etwas, welches über sich Den schönen Himmel sieht, Und unter sich die Erde, die Voll schöner Blumen blüht! Ein Etwas, welches fragt: bin ich? Und das antwortet: Ja! Das weiter fragt: von wem bist du, Warum nicht dort, nicht da? Warum nicht mehr, nicht weniger, Nicht Mond, nicht Sonnenlicht? Nicht Gott? - Und [horch]1, das Etwas sagt: Das alles weiß ich nicht! Gott aber weiß es, und auf Gott auf Gott, Den Herrn von meinem Ich, Sey's was es will, und wo und wie, Auf Gott verlaß ich mich!
