Riposa ognuno, e placida cresce la notte bruna, splende l'argentea luna, tacciono i venti e il mar. Ah! forse il ciglio languido tu chiudi al sonno, Elvira, mentre per te sospira l'afflitto marinar, mentre dolente e pallido la sua barchetta ei guida e il nome tuo confida al lido, all' aura, al mar. Elvira, ah! calma i palpiti d'un mesto cor che geme, desta la morta speme in petto al marinar. Digli: Io veglio, o misero, ed al tuo crudo affanno soltanto eco non fanno le vaste onde del mar; vedi, furtive lagrime spargo al tuo mesto canto, odo il lamento, il pianto del fido marinar!
