An dem Seegestade düster Steht der hohe Tannenbaum, Lauscht, versenkt in tiefen Traum, Melancholischem Geflüster. Da noch wirft die Sonn’ im Sinken Ihres letzten Strahls Gewalt Auf sein Haupt, dass glanzumwallt Seine Zweige all’ erblinken. Liebe! so ums Haupt mir weben Mögst du deiner Glorie Pracht! Einmal nur, einmal nur, eh’ ew’ge Nacht Tief in Dunkel hüllt mein Leben.
