The Farewell
Language: English
Farewell to my bosom's delight, farewell, the fond wish of my heart, from the scenes where I lived in thy sight stern destiny dooms me to part. As o'er the wide ocean I rove in search of a far distant land, my faithful companion is love, but hope stays behind on the strand. On the wave-beaten rocks of a coast, that frowns o'er a desolate sea, my sighs will henceforward be lost, for they cannot be wafted to thee. Yet do not too tenderly grieve, nor my sorrows too deeply deplore, since death can those sorrows relieve; ah trust me! they soon will be o'er!
