Wie doch so schnell der Mensch vergißt, Daß er aus schlechtem Thon nur ist, Und daß das Krüglein, wie man spricht, Zum Brunnen wandert, bis er bricht. Wohl singt, und schreitet der Caplan Zum Kirchof manchem Zug voran, Und wandelt rüstig einher und hin, Und bleibt am Ende selbst herin. Und ich, - ich grabe manches Grab, Und steig herauf, und steig´ hinab, Zu guter Letzt kommt doch ein Tag, Wo ich nicht mehr heraus vermag. Gott Lob! Mein Urtheil fürcht´ ich nicht; Weil ja die Bibel selber spricht: Wer Gräber denen Todten macht, Der hat ein gutes Werk vollbracht.
