Erschein', o Mond, Dring durch's Gewölk; Erscheinet, ihr nächtlichen Sterne, Geleitet freundlich mich, Wo mein Geliebter ruht. Surt, oh lluna, travessa els núvols, sortiu estrelles de la nit, amablement guieu-me vers on s’està el meu estimat. Amb ell fugiré del meu pare, amb ell, del meu autoritari germà, surt, oh lluna. Calleu, tempestes, oh calla, torrent, que em pugui sentir el meu caminant estimat, Salgar! Sóc jo que et crida. Aquí hi ha l’arbre, aquí la roca, per què trigues tant? Com sentiré la teva veu cridant-me? Tempestes, calleu. Però mira, la lluna surt, el cim del tossal s’aclareix, a la vall el riu resplendeix, l’ermàs oneja a la llum de la lluna. Jo no el veig a la vall, ni tampoc al clar tossal, cap soroll el fa avinent, vagarejo aquí solitària. Però qui són aquells allà ajaguts damunt l’àrid ermàs? És el meu estimat, ell! I al seu costat el meu germà! Ai, tots dos ensangonats, desembeinades les furients espases! Per què l’has mort? I tu Salgar, per què? Esperits dels meus morts, parleu des del tossal rocós, des del cim de les muntanyes, mai m’espantareu! On heu anat a reposar, ai, a quina cova ara us haig de trobar? Però no ressona cap alè. Aquí, en profunda aflicció, ploraré fins el matí, construïu la tomba, amics, però no la tanqueu sense mi. Con hauria de restar aquí?
