Вчера мой кот взглянул на календарь И хвост трубою поднял моментально, Потом подрал [на лестницу]1, как встарь, И завопил тепло и вакханально: «Весенний брак! Гражданский брак! Спешите, кошки, на чердак...» И кактус мой — о, чудо из чудес! — Залитый чаем и кофейной гущей, Как новый Лазарь, взял да и воскрес И с каждым днем прет из земли всё пуще. Зеленый шум... Я поражен: «Как много дум наводит он!» Уже с панелей смерзшуюся грязь, Ругаясь, скалывают дворники лихие, Уже ко мне забрел сегодня «князь», Взял теплый шарф и лыжи беговые... «Весна, весна! — пою, как бард,— Несите зимний хлам в ломбард». Сияет солнышко. Ей-богу, ничего! Весенняя лазурь спугнула дым и копоть, Мороз уже не щиплет никого, Но многим нечего, как и зимою, лопать... Деревья ждут... Гниет вода, И пьяных больше, чем всегда. Создатель мой! Спасибо за весну! — Я думал, что она не возвратится,— Но... дай сбежать в лесную тишину От злобы дня, холеры и столицы! Весенний ветер за дверьми... В кого б влюбиться, черт возьми!

Hier mon chat a regardé le calendrier Et sa queue s'est aussitôt levée. Puis il a dévalé les escaliers, Comme d'habitude, et a miaulé Avec chaleur et lascivement : « C'est la noce au printemps ! Les gens se marient ! Venez vite, les chats, au grenier ! » Et mon cactus, merveille entre les merveilles ! Humecté de restes de thé et de café, Comme un nouveau Lazare, avance et ressuscite Et chaque jour sur la terre pousse toute une forêt dense. Le bruit est vert ! J'étais ébahi : « Combien de pensées il fait pousser ! » Déjà du pavé la boue gelée, En jurant, les balayeurs la balaient. Un prince aujourd'hui s'est promené pour moi, Il a pris une écharpe chaude et des skis... « Printemps, printemps ! » Je chante comme le barde, emporte le rebut de l'hiver au mont-de-piété ! Le soleil brille, Oh, mon Dieu ! Le ciel bleu du printemps a effrayé la fumée et la suie. Le gel ne mord plus personne. Mais de nombreuses personnes n'ont plus, Comme en hiver, à manger... Les arbres attendent... L'eau dégèle, et il y a plus d'ivrognes que jamais. Oh, mon Créateur ! Merci pour le printemps ! Je pensais qu'il ne reviendrait pas, mais... Que je m'échappe vers la forêt silencieuse Loin de l'amertume quotidienne, du choléra et de la capitale. Un vent printanier est à ma porte... De qui vais-je tomber amoureux, bon sang ?
