Он смерть нашёл в краю чужом, в краю

но враг друзьями побежден, друзья ликуют, Только он
на поле битвы позабыт, один лежит.
И между тем как жадный вран пьёт кровь его из свежих ран
и точит незакрытый глаз,
грозивший смертью в смерти час,
и насладившись, пьян и сыт, долой летит...
Далёко там, в краю родном,
мать кормит сына под окном:
,,Агу... агу! не плачь, сынок, вернётся тятя! пирожёк
тогда на радостях дружку я испеку...``
А тот забыт, один лежит.

Il a rencontré la mort dans un pays étranger, dans un pays
étranger, dans une bataille avec l'ennemi,
mais l'ennemi fut vaincu par ses amis, ses amis se réjouirent. Mais il
fut oublié sur le champ de bataille, seul il resta.
Et un corbeau avide boit le sang de ses blessures fraîches,
Et donne des coups de bec à ses yeux ouverts,
ces yeux qui ont menacé la mort, il y a une heure,
et réjoui, enivré et satisfait, il s'envole au loin...
Là-bas, dans sa patrie,
Une mère nourrit son enfant à la fenêtre :
« Là, là ! Ne pleure pas, mon fils, ton papa revient ! Un gâteau,
Maintenant je vais le cuire pour le fêter... »
Mais lui, oublié, il gît seul.
