Note provided by D. Cushing : Traditionally the hymn is performed like a Znammeny Chant, which means that the male choir sings in unison. Znammeny Chant is specifically intended to be sung in "natural voice" which means by an untrained vocalist, in this case a church choir. The unusual changes in key,
melody, and timing are supposed to surprise the ear, which surprise
better allows the holy truth of the hymn to enter one's heart. The
hymn may be performed by a soloist or by a woman for a Burial Service,
this hymn being very popular for burials because of its theme of
eternal life.

Blessed [are] you, Lord, teach me Your precedents. [The] heavenly host was surprised, [As] You shouldn’t have been mixed up among the dead, Yet death, Saviour, [you] destroyed [its] fortress, And you yourself brought forth Adam, And from Hades we were all freed. Blessed [are] you, Lord, teach me Your precedents. “Why, myrrh1 with merciful tears, O maidens, [do you] dissolve [these things] together?” Shining from [the] grave [the] Angel announced to the whole world: “Look into the grave and realize: [The] Saviour is risen from the grave.” Blessed [are] you, Lord, teach me Your precedents. Exceedingly early bearers2 approached Your tomb in tears, But appearing to them, [an] Angel said: “[The] time of crying is past, don’t cry, Tell of [the] resurrection to [the] apostles.” Blessed [are] you, Lord, teach me Your precedents. Women carrying myrrh approached Your grave, Saviour, crying. But [the] Angel said to them, asking: “…Why among the dead, do you seek the living? For God has raised him from [the] grave.” Glory to the Father and Song and Holy Spirit. Worship [the] Father and His Son, and Holy Spirit, Holy Trinity in one being, With [the] seraphim proclaiming: Holy, holy, holy [are] you, Lord. Both now and always and forever3, amen. Life-giving one-who-gives birth, from sin, Virgin, you saved Adam. Joy, even to Eve, instead of sorrow, you gave; Even [those] fallen from life [received] this righteousness, From You incarnate God and man. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, glory to you, God.
1 note: 'mir' usually means peace or world, here it refers to a perfumed oil infused with myrrh, used to anount the dead; the modern Russian spelling has a double r.
2 i.e., those who took the body down from the cross to bring it to the tomb or grave
3 literally: now and ever and unto ages of ages (or centuries of centuries)
