Singable translation by

Johanna von Arc vor dem Scheiterhaufen
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the French (Français)
Available translation(s): ENG
Mein Gott! aus meiner Herden Mitten
Riefst du mich, meinem Volk zu lieb,
Fort, zu vertreiben diese Britten
Wie vor mir her ich Schafe trieb.
Der uns sein Licht im Dunkel leihet,
Dein Geist, Herr, hat mein Haupt umloht.
Ich steig' hinauf zum Flammentod;
Doch Frankreich habe ich befreiet.
Mein Gott und Herr! aus tiefstem Herzen
Preis' ich mein Los voll Opfermut;
Und doch erbeb' ich vor den Schmerzen,
Dem Tode in der graus'gen Glut.
Und werd' zum letzten Kampf, gefeiet
Ge'n Furcht, ich schreiten, so bedroht?
Ich steig' hinauf zum Flammentod;
Doch Frankreich habe ich befreiet.
Die Fahne will ich hier entfalten,
Auf deren Sieg ich fest vertraut,
Wo, von Marias Arm gehalten,
Zu mir der Heiland niederschaut.
Die Fahne will ich hier entfalten,
Dies Zeichen Himmelstrost verleihet
Im letzten Kampf, in letzter Not.
Ich steig' hinauf zum Flammentod;
Doch Frankreich habe ich befreiet.

Joan of Arc at the stake
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
My God! from out the midst of my herds
Thou called me, for the love of my people,
Away, to drive off these British
The way I drove my sheep before me.
He who grants us light in the darkness,
Thy Spirit, Lord, blazes about my brow.
I mount the pyre to my flaming death;
But I have freed France.
My Lord and God! from the depths of my heart
I praise my lot, full of the courage of sacrifice;
And yet I tremble before the pain,
[Before] death in the horrid blaze.
And shall I, thus threatened, stride
To the last battle, invulnerable to fear?
I mount the pyre to my flaming death;
But I have freed France.
Here I shall unfurl the flag
In whose victory I firmly trusted,
[Here] where, held by Mary’s arm,
The Saviour gazes down upon me.
Here I shall unfurl the flag;
This emblem provides heavenly comfort
In the last battle, in the last adversity.
I mount the pyre to my flaming death;
But I have freed France.
