Les feuilles tombent d'un arbre Qui a grandi librement ! Sur les tombes chantent Quelques oiseaux des champs. Ça ne s'est pas, ça ne s'est pas, Ô Pologne, bien passé pour toi. Tout, tout n'était qu'un rêve, Et tes enfants sont dans la tombe. Tes villages ont brûlé, Tes villes ont été détruites, Et tout autour dans les champs Une femme se lamente. Tout le monde a quitté sa maison, Ils ont pris avec eux leur faux, Il ne reste personne, Dans les champs les épis meurent. Quand à Varsovie La jeunesse s'est rassemblée, Il semblait que la gloire Sortirait de toute la Pologne. Tout l'hiver ils tinrent bon, Pendant l'été ils dominèrent, Mais à l'automne ils faiblirent Et les plus jeunes ne sont pas arrivés. Les batailles sont terminées, Mais ce fut en vain, Car dans leurs parcelles Aucun de nos frères n'est revenu. Certains sont entassés dans la terre D'autres sont en captivité, Les autres sont dispersés dans le monde Sans toit et affamés. Il n'y a pas d'aide du ciel, Ni de mains humaines, Le sol est dévasté, Les charmes des floraisons se montrent en vain. Les feuilles tombent d'un arbre, Elles tombent encore une fois. Oh ! terre de Pologne, si tes compatriotes Qui meurent pour toi travaillaient Et ceux qui de leur patrie emportent une poignée de terre Déjà de leurs mains ils auraient reconstruit la Pologne. Mais se démarquer par la force Est maintenant pour nous un prodige, Car les traîtres sont arrivés, Et les gens sont trop gentils.
