Auf der Wellen Spiegel
Schwimmt der Kahn.
Alte Burgen ragen
Himmelan;
Tannenwälder rauschen
[Geistergleich -]1
Und das Herz im Busen
Wird uns weich.
Denn der Menschen Werke
Sinken all';
Wo ist [Thurm und]2 Pforte,
Wo der Wall,
Wo sie selbst, die Starken?
Erzgeschirmt,
Die in Krieg und Jagden
Hingestürmt.
Trauriges Gestrüppe
Wuchert fort,
Während frommer Sage
Kraft verdorrt.
Und im kleinen Kahne
Wird uns bang -
Wellen droh'n, wie Zeiten,
Untergang.

Al Danubi
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Damunt el nivell
de les ones sura la barca,
antics castells es drecen
vers el cel,
boscos d’avets mormolen
com esperits,
i el cor se’ns ablaneix
en el pit.
Car totes les obres dels humans
s’esfondren,
on són les torres, on les portalades,
on les muralles,
on són elles mateixes, les fortaleses,
tan ben protegides,
que en guerres i batudes foren
assaltades?
Desolats matossars
s’hi propaguen arreu,
mentre la força de les devotes
llegendes s’esbraona:
i a la petita barca
ens angoixem,
les onades, com el temps, amenacen
l’esfondrament.
