Pastorell
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Schalle nur, du muntre Flöte
da die holde morgenröte
noch mit tausend Farben spielt,
Und diss blökende getümmel,
unter aufgeklärtem Himmel,
im betauten Grase wül't;
da sich, aus belaubten Büschen,
der vergnügten Vögel Schall
und ein sanfter Wiederhall
in der stillen Luft vermischen!
Schalle, sanftes Rohr! und sage:
Phillis kömmt an diesem Tage
Auf des Tirsis weide hin,
Phillis, die mein Herze liebet,
Phillis, die sich mir ergiebet,
Phillis, meine Schäferin.
Suche Phillis zu gefallen,
Meiner Flöten lauter Ton!
Wald und Hügel lernet schon
Selbst von meiner Phillis lallen.

Pastorale
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Just sound, you lively flute,
the charming rosy dawn
still with a thousand colours plays here,
and this bleating turmoil,
under a clearing sky,
scrambles in the bedewed grass;
there from leafy bushes,
the song of pleasing birds
and a gentle echo
mingle in the quiet breeze!
Sound, gentle pipe! and say:
Phillis comes this day
to Thyrsis' meadow,
Phillis, whom my heart loves,
Phillis, to whom I give myself,
Phillis my shepherdess.
Seek to favour Phillis,
my flute's loud tone!
Even forest and hill learn already
to babble of my Phillis.
