Bethlehem
Language: German (Deutsch)

Der Lichtglanz schwindet,
es schweiget der himmlische Chor.
Von der Erde erheben
die Hirten ihr Antlitz empor,
von Ehrfurcht erfüllet,
von wunderbar seligem Glück.
Sie ziehen von dannen
und lassen die Herde zurück.
Nach Bethlehem eilend,
im Herzen des Engels Wort,
erreichen sie gläubig
den ärmlichen Hort.
Sie finden die Mutter
und in der Krippe das Kind:
Christus, den Herrn!

Bethlehem
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The radiance vanishes,
The heavenly choir falls silent.
The shepherds raise their
Faces from the earth,
Filled with awe,
[Filled] with wondrous blessed happiness.
They travel hence
And leave their herd behind.
Hastening to Bethlehem,
In their hearts the angel’s words,
Devoutly they reach
The poor shelter.
They find the mother
And in the manger the child:
Christ the Lord!
