En rankvokst Jente med røde Bånd Om Flettens vægtige Guld, På Vangen sad med sit Strikketøj. En Flok af Gjeder om hende fløj, Den Vogter stille, mens Elv og Kilde gled uden Støj. Am Abend zur schönsten Sommerszeit ging ich durch ein stilles Tal. Die Berge glänzten im Dämmerschein, und blau und grün schien der Fjord herein, als Sommerlüfte und Birkendüfte mich hüllten ein. Ein schlankes Mädchen mit rotem Band geflochten ins gold’ne Haar ich strickend auf einer Wiese fand. Bei ihren Ziegen sie hütend stand, auf sichrer Weide, und stille gleitet der Bach ins Land. Was mocht’ sie denken, die schlanke Maid zur träumenden Abendzeit alleine, einsam an Tales Hang? Ihr Sehnen wohl übern Fels sich schwang? Horns Antwort klinget! Zum Felsen dringet wehmüt’ger Klang.
