Trost beim Abschied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Vom lichtumglänzten Hügel
Schau' ich hinab in's Thal,
Vertraue der Winde Flügel
Wohl Grüsse ohne Zahl!
Lass einmal noch ertönen
Der lieben Stimme Klang,
Sie mildre dieses Sehnen,
Erleichtre den schweren Gang;
Leb wohl, du meine Freude,
Leb wohl, mein holder Hoffnungsschein!
Weit über Wald und Haide,
Berg auf, Thal ab, Feld ein
Folgen dir die Gedanken
Stets wandl' ich neben dir,
Und nimmer werd' ich wanken,
Dein bleib ich dort und hier.
Es tönt für lange Zeiten
Zum letzten mal dein Sang.
In meines Herzens Saiten
Zittert der traute Klang,
In meine Seele dringt er
Gleich milder Hoffnung Licht,
Und Trost und Ruhe bringt er
Und ruft: Verzage nicht!
Kann dich erreichen nimmer
Mein warmer Liebesblick,
Im Busen bleibet immer
Dein süsses Bild zurück.
Nah bleiben sich die Herzen,
Tage und Monde vergehn,
Und nach der Trennung Schmerzen,
Lohnt schönes Wiedersehn.

Comfort when saying goodbye
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
From the light-surrounded hill
I look down into the valley,
Trust to the wings of the wind
Countless greetings!
Let once more sing
The sweet voice sound,
She may mitigate this yearning,
May ease the heavy path;
Farewell, my joy,
Farewell, my lovely ray of hope!
Far across the forest and the heathland,
Uphill, downhill, across the fields
My thoughts always follow you
I always walk by your side,
And I will never waver,
I'll be yours, be it there or here.
It resounds for a very long time
One last time your singing.
On my heart's strings
The familiar sound reverberates,
In my soul it penetrates
Like the light of mild hope
And consolation and rest it brings
And exclaims: Do not despair!
Can never reach you
My warm look of love,
In the bosom always
Your sweet image stays.
Close are the hearts,
Days and moons go by,
And after the pain of separation,
The beautiful reunion will be worth it.
