Der Hahn
Language: German (Lower Austrian)
Available translation(s): ENG
Auf'm Düngerhaufen kraht der Hahn
sein stolzes Kikeriki:
„Ös Henderln alle, schaut's mi an,
der schönste Mann bin i!
So reich wie i kann niemand sein,
a Fürst beneidet mi;
der ganze Misthaufen g'hört ja mein,
und ös a! Kikeriki!
Mi fürcht'n d' Leut', wann i im Zorn,
i aber fürcht' mi nie;
die Welt is nur erschaffen word'n
z'weg'n meiner, kikeriki!“
So kraht er in sein'm stolzen Wahn
vom Misthaufen herab;
da kommt die Köchin, fangt den Hahn,
geht her und sticht ihn ab!

The Cock
Language: English  after the German (Lower Austrian)
Upon the dunghill a cock crows
his proud Cock-A-Doodle-Doo:
"Hey, all you hens, look at me,
the most handsome man, that's me!
Nobody can be as rich as I am,
a prince would envy me;
the whole dunghill is my property,
and so are you! Doodle-Doo!
When I get angry, people are afraid of me,
but I myself am never afraid;
the whole world has been created
for my sake only; Doodle-Doo!“
So in his proud delusion he crows
down from the dunghill;
suddenly the cook comes, catches the cock
and cuts his throat.
