Des Vögleins Glaube
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Schon wagt's ein Vöglein wieder,
Und probt sein Schnäbelein;
Vom kahlen Baume nieder
Wie klingt es hell und fein!
Und sieh, noch ringsum tragen
Ihr graues Kleid die Aun;
Die Sonne nur, mit Zagen,
Will hold vom Himmel schaun.
Da hobest du die Schwingen
Zum ersten Liede gleich:
O Vöglein, möcht' ich singen
Wie du an Glauben reich!

The faith of the birdlet
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Already a birdlet dares [to sing] again,
And tries out its little beak;
Down from the bare tree
How it rings brightly and well!
And see, all around yet the meadows
Are wearing their gray garment;
Only the sun, with hesitation,
Wishes to look down radiantly from the sky.
Then you immediately lifted
Your wings for the first song:
Oh birdlet, could I sing
Like you, full of faith!
