Non fossi mai uscito da voi, boschi, maestosi e stupendi! Mi avete tenuto innamorato per lunghi, lunghi anni! Nei vostri crepuscoli, tra canti d'uccelli e fonti d'argento, è sgorgato anche qualche canto dal mio petto, fresco e chiaro. Le vostre onde, i vostri suoni, il vostro stormire mai stanco, tutte le vostre melodie hanno destato nel mio petto il canto. Qui in questi ampi prati tutto è per me triste e muto, e mi guardo intorno nell'aria azzurra e vedo le forme delle nuvole. Quando il petto è oppresso raramente si muove il canto: come l'uccello canta a metà separato dall'albero e dalle fronde.
