Ich wandre über Berg und Thal Und über grüne Haiden, Und mit mir wandert meine Qual, Will nimmer von mir scheiden; Und schifft' ich auch durch's weite Meer, Sie käm' auch dort wohl hinterher. Wohl blühn viel Blumen auf der Flur, Die hab' ich nicht gesehen, Denn Eine Blume seh' ich nur Auf allen Wegen stehen. Nach ihr hab' ich mich oft gebückt Und doch sie nimmer abgepflückt. Die Bienen [sumsen]1 durch das Gras Und hängen an den Blüthen; Das macht mein Auge trüb' und naß, Ich kann mir's nicht verbieten. Ihr süßen Lippen, roth und weich, Wohl hing ich nimmer so an euch! Ik zwerf steeds over berg en dal En over groene heide, En met mij zwerft mijn oude kwaal, Die nooit van mij wil scheiden. Al zeild' ik over de wijde zee, Zij ging ook daar wel met mij mee. Er staan veel bloemen op het veld; Die heb ik niet bekeken. Slechts één is er die voor mij telt; Die zie 'k op alle wegen. Naar haar heb ik mij vaak gebukt En toch haar nimmer afgeplukt. De bijen zoemen door het gras En zoenen zacht de bloemen. Dat maakt mij droef en week als was, Ik kan 't niet anders noemen. O zoete lippen, rood en teer, U zoend' ik nog geen enk'le keer! Hoe lieflijk klinkt de zangmêlee Der vogels in de twijgen; Ik zong graag met de vogels mee, Maar ik moet treurig zwijgen, Want liefdeslust en liefdespijn, Die willen niet graag samen zijn. De wolken jagen vleugelsnel, Door niemand in te tomen, De golven ruisen licht en hel, Steeds gaan zij weg en komen. Toch spelen, zonder windgesuis, Nog wolk'n en golven kat en muis.
