Der Räuber
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE ITA
Einst am schönen Frühlingsmorgen
Tritt der Räuber vor den Wald.
Sieh, den hohlen Pfad herneder
Kommt ein schlankes Mädchen bald,
"Trügst du, statt der Maienglocken,"
Spricht des Waldes kühner Sohn,
"In dem Korb den Schmuck des Königs,
Frei doch zögerst du davon!"
Lange folgen seine Blicke
Der geliebten Wallerin;
Durch die Wiesengründe wandelt sie
Zu stillen Dörfern hin,
Bis der Gärten reiche Blüte
Hüllt die liebliche Gestalt.
Doch der Räuber kehret wieder
In den finstern Tannenwald.

The brigand
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Once on a beautiful spring morning,
A brigand stepped from the wood.
See, down from the hollow path
Soon comes a slim maiden.
"If you were carrying, instead of lilies,"
Says the bold son of the wood,
"the King's jewels in your basket,
For that, then, you would not quickly go free."
Long his eyes follow
The beloved peasant;
Through the meadow she walks,
To the still village there.
At last, the rich blossom of the garden
Wraps her lovely figure.
Then the brigand turns again
Into the dark fir-wood.
