lernt mein glücke niemals fliegen,
desto sichrer bleib' ich siegen;
denn, da ich niedrig bin,
so stoss' ich nirgend an.
Wer in der tat schon liegt, der fürchtet keinen Fall
und wird zu keiner Zeit des unglücks leichter Ball,
der darum steigen muß, damit er fallen kann.

so the more secure I become.
Since I am low,
I push nowhere.
He who is already lying down, fears no fall,
and never becomes misfortune's light ball.
Therefore he who must rise is likely to fall.
