Zurück mit [Lächeln]1 tritt sie dann; Da fällt auf ihre Stirne Der klarste Morgenstrahl. Der Ritter aber faßt sie schnell Bei ihrer weißen Hand. Ihr blaues Auge, frisch und hell, Sie schlägt es erst zu Boden, Dann hebt sie's unverwandt. En el cercle dels vassalls seu el cavaller, jove i ardit; els seus foscos ulls brillen com foc, com si volgués anar al combat i cremen les seves galtes. Una delicada noia s’acosta i li omple la copa. Es retira amb un somriure; aleshores, al seu front, cau el raig de sol més clar del matí. El cavaller però, de seguida agafa la seva blanca mà. Els seus ulls blaus, vius i brillants, ella primer els abaixa al terra, i després els aixeca fixament. “Bella Eduvigis, que ets al meu davant, digues-me amb franquesa tres coses: d’on véns, on vas, i per què sempre em segueixes; aquestes són les tres coses!” “D’on vinc? Jo vinc de Déu, això és el que em digueren, quan perseguida per l’afront i l’escarni, plorant, un dia vaig preguntar al pare i a la mare. On vaig? Res m’empeny a marxar, el món és massa gran.
