Spätes Glück
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Es hat ein Blümchen Tag für Tag
Sich nach dem Licht gereckt,
Die liebe Sonne fand es nicht,
War gar zu tief versteckt.
Erst, als der Sichel blanker Stahl
Die Gräser rings gemäht,
Hat's warm der Sonnenschein geküßt --
War aber viel zu spät!

Late happiness
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A little flower day after day
Stretched out toward the light,
The dear sun did not find it,
It was far too deeply hidden.
Only when the shining steel of the sickle
Mowed down the grasses round about,
The warm sunshine kissed [the flower] --
But it was far too late!
