Es war ein Tag im Maien

Love lost
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
It was a day of Maying My sweetheart said farewell, I heard her voice and trusted The magic of her spell. She went I know not whither, My heart was burdened sore; Spring came with song and flowers: My love came never more. Now will I through countries wander And seek her who owns my heart And trembling I will ask her Why she from me did part. But if she's mute and weeping And droops her head in fear, Our troth is rent for ever Farewell, my own lost dear!
From the Van der Stucken score.
