Mi batteva il cuore come un cavallo al galoppo! Accadde prima che lo pensassi, la sera cullava già la terra e sui monti pendeva la notte. Già stava in abiti nebbiosi la quercia, un torreggiante colosso, qui, dove la tenebra dal cespuglio guardava con cento occhi neri! La luna guardava da una collina di nubi, dolorosamente i venti spiegavano ali leggere, sibilando spaventosi intorno alle mie orecchie; la notte creava mille orrori, ma il mio animo era lieto e contento: che fuoco nelle mie vene! Che ardore nel mio cuore! Ti vidi, e la gioia soave cominciò a scorrere dal tuo dolce sguardo in me, tutto il mio cuore era al tuo fianco e ogni mio respiro per te. Un tempo di primavera, colorato di rosa, circondava l'amabile viso, e dolcezza per me - O dèi! Lo speravo, ma non ne ero degno! Ma ahimè! Già col primo sole il commiato mi stringe il cuore: che voluttà nei tuoi baci! Che dolore nei tuoi occhi!
