Es war einmal, ihr Leute
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): DUT FRE
Es war einmal, ihr [Leute]1,
Ein Knäblein jung und zart,
Hieß Friedrich, war daneben
Recht gut von Sinnesart.
War freundlich und bescheiden,
Nicht zänkisch und nicht wild,
War sanft wie kleine Schäfchen,
Und wie ein Täubchen mild.
Drum gab auch Gott Gedeihen,
Das Knäblein wuchs heran,
Und seine Eltern hatten
Recht ihre Freude dran.
Zu Schul' und Gotteshause
Sah man es fleißig geh'n,
Und Jedem, der es grüßte,
gar freundlich Rede steh'n.
Auch war ihm in der Schule
Ein Jeder herzlich gut,
Denn Allen macht es Freude,
Und Allen war es gut.
Einst hieß es: Brüder, morgen
Fällt sein Geburtstag ein!
Gleich riefen All' und Jede:
Der muß gefeiert sein.

Il était une fois, bonnes gens
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Il était une fois, bonnes gens,
Un petit garçon jeune et doux,
Qui s'appelait Friedrich, qui en plus
Était de bonne disposition.
Il était aimable et modeste,
Ni querelleur, ni sauvage,
Il était doux comme un petit agneau,
Et gentil comme une tourterelle.
C'est pourquoi Dieu lui accorda la prospérité ;
Le petit garçon grandit,
Et ses parents en eurent
Une grande joie.
À l'école et à l'église,
On le vit aller avec application,
Et à ceux qui le saluaient,
Il répondait tout à fait aimablement.
À l'école aussi,
Tout le monde était aimable avec lui,
Car il les rendait tous heureux
Et il était bon envers tous.
Un jour on annonça :
Frères, demain ce sera
Son anniversaire !
Tout un chacun s'écria :
Cela doit être fêté !
