Mai
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
Nun aber hebt zu singen an
Der Mai mit seinen Winden.
Wohl dem, der suchen gehen kann
Und bunte Blumen finden!
Die Schönheit steigt millionenfach
Empor aus schwarzer Erden;
Manch eingekümmert Weh und Ach
Mag nun vergessen werden.
Denn dazu ist der Mai gemacht,
Daß er uns lachen lehre.
Die Herzen hoch! Und fortgelacht
Des Grames Miserere!

May
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
But now May with its winds
Begins to sing.
Happy is he who can go a-seeking
And find colourful flowers!
Beauty rises up by the millions
From the black earth;
Many a long-established woe and lamenting
May now be forgotten.
For that is why May was made,
That it may teach us to laugh!
Lift your hearts! And laugh away
The misery of sorrow!
