Läßt so, o Sünder, nicht genesen Dich dieser Reuetränen Fall? Wie glüh'nd die Wunden der Brust gewesen, Ein Himmelstropfen, er heilt sie all'! Tenor-Solo mit Chor Und sieh, demütig betend kniet Der Mann dort an des Kindes Seite, Indes ein Sonnenstrahl auf beide, Den Sünder und den Reinen glüht. Und Hymnen durch den Himmel schweben, Denn einer Seele ward vergeben! Gesunken war der gold'ne Ball, Noch lagen sie auf ihren Knien, Da fiel ein rein'rer, schön'rer Strahl, Als je aus Sonn'und Sternen schien, Auf jene Träne. Ein sterblich' Auge nähm' ihn zwar Als Meteor, als Nordlicht wahr, Doch weiß die Peri wohl: der Schein, Es muß des Engels Lächeln sein, Womit er mild die Träne grüßt, Die bald den Himmel ihr erschließt.

La Peri: Cau una gota damunt la terra d’Egipte, abrusada per la calor de juny, avall, des de la lluna, d’un aital poder guaridor, que a l’instant el dimoni de la pesta desapareix i la salut torna a revifar el cel i la terra. Oh pecador, no et guareix aquest devessall de llàgrimes de penediment? Per més abrusants que hagin estat les ferides del cor una gota del cel les guareix totes! Tenor solo amb cor: I mireu, humilment s’agenolla allà en pregària l’home al costat de l’infant, mentre un raig de sol resplendeix damunt tots dos, el pecador i el pur. I himnes voleien per el cel, car una ànima ha estat perdonada! L’esfera daurada s’havia amagat i encara restaven de genolls, llavors cau el raig més pur i més bell que mai s’hagi vist del sol o de les estrelles, damunt aquella llàgrima. Himnes voleien per el cel, car una ànima ha estat perdonada! Per a uns ulls mortals seria com un meteor o l’aurora boreal, però la Peri ho sap ben bé: l’esclat deu ser el somriure de l’àngel, amb el que benignament acull la llàgrima que aviat li obrirà la porta del cel.
