Herbstbild
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE

Autumn image
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
This is an autumn day like none I have seen before!
The air is motionless, as if one were hardly breathing,
and nevertheless, far and near, with a rustle,
the fairest fruits are falling from every tree.
O do not interfere with this ceremony of Nature!
This is the harvest that she gathers herself;
for today the only things that are coming off the branches
are those that are loosened by the gentle touch of sunbeams.
