Da grüßt ihn ein Mädchen, so lieblich und fein,
die Züge wie edel, die Blicke wie rein;

Un petit bouquet au chapeau, la canne à la main,
il faut que le voyageur aille de pays en pays ;
il parcourt de nombreuses routes, il voit beaucoup d'endroits,
pourtant il faut qu'il poursuive vers un autre endroit.
Il peut bien voir une maisonnette au bord du chemin,
si belle entourée de fleurs et de vignes ;
ici cela pourrait lui plaire, il souhaiterait qu'elle fut à lui,
pourtant il lui faut encore parcourir le monde de long en large.
Si une fille le salue, si charmante et douce,
aux traits si nobles, au regard si pur :
« ah si tu étais à moi, j'aimerais rester près de toi »,
Pourtant il doit encore continuer, s'en aller au loin.
