Jullie, eed'le vlammen, Hebt mij gewekt, Met jullie samen Heb 'k God ontdekt. Een vuurstorm was het Die alles drijft, Krachtig en prachtig, Die eeuwig blijft. Waar wij naar streefden Was echt gemeend; Wat wij doorleefden Blijft diep vereend. Toen brak een scheiden Het hart mij stuk; Een peilloos lijden Door lief geluk. Diep in mijn binnenst Draag ik een beeld, Het dood'lijk letsel Werd nooit geheeld. Duizenden tranen Volgden elkaar, Een eeuwig hunk'ren Naar 't graf, naar haar.
