Ode
Language: French (Français)
Available translation(s): ENG
Je te salue heureuse Paix,
Je te salue et re-salue:
Toy seule Déesse tu fais
Que la vie soit mieux voulue.
Ainsi que les champs tapissez
De pampre, ou d'espics herissez
Desirent les filles des nues
Apres les chaleurs survenues,
Ainsi la France t'attendoit,
Douce nourriciere des hommes,
Douce rosee qui consommes
La chaleur qui trop nous ardoit.
Tu as esteint tout l'ennuy
Des guerres injurieuses,
Faisant flamber aujourd'huy
Tes graces victorieuses.
En lieu du fer outrageux,
Des menaces et des flammes,
Tu nous ramènes les jeux,
Le bal et l'amour des Dames,
Travaux mignards et plaisants
À l'ardeur des jeunes ans.

Ode
Language: English  after the French (Français)
I greet you, Peace, bringer of good fortune,
I greet you and re-greet you
You alone, goddess, make
Us desire life more.
Just as countryside carpeted
With vines or spiky corn,
So do girls desire clouds
After the hot weather has arrived,
And so France awaited you
Sweet foster-mother of men
Sweet dew which consumes
The heat which burns too hot.
You have suppressed all the pain
Of injurious wars
Making light up today
Your victorious favours.
Instead of terrible steel,
Threats and fires,
You bring us sports,
Dancing and the love of ladies
Dainty and pleasing tasks
For our heated youth.
