Zaczarowana królewna W mirtowym lasku drzemie; U nóg jej lutnia śpiewna Zsunęła się na ziemię. Niedokończona piosneczka Uśmiechem lśni na twarzy; Drżą jeszcze jej usteczka - O czymś rozkosznym marzy. Marzy o jednym z rycerzy, Że idąc przez odmęty, Do stóp jej tu przybieży I przerwie sen zaklęty. Lecz rycerz, co walczył dla niej, Ten męstwo swe przeceniał - Zabłąkał się w otchłani... I zwątpił... i skamieniał.

Es schläft die Königstochter verzaubert im Myrtengrün, es glitt die gold'ne Laute zu Füßen ihr dahin. Ein unvollendet Liedchen lächelt auf ihrer Wang', die Lippen wollen sprechen von Träumen, ach süß und bang. Sie träumt, es dränge mutig ein edler Rittersmann durch Wildnis und Gefahren, zu sprengen ihren Bann. Doch ach! Der tapf're Ritter ging irre im Zauberhain. Verzweifelnd schaut er rückwärts und ward verwandelt zu Stein.
