Allein bist, Mutter, du daheim

Oh mother mine
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh mother mine at home alone, Thou dost but long for me, And thinkest only of the son Who tarries far from thee. They tears that fell the day I went, Alas! I saw them not, I reck'd not that thy heart was sore, Thy words I soon forgot. For I was longing to be gone, From town to town to roam, And little thought I of the heart That yearn'd for me at home. For I was longing to be gone, To win fair ladies' praise, And little thought if e'er again I'd dare to meet thy gaze.
