Mir Ruhe zu verkünden;
Nur ich allein mit meiner Pein
Vermag sie nicht zu finden.
Wann läutest du denn mir zur Ruh'
Von deinem Kirchlein droben?
Sei ruhig, Herz! Ein jeder Schmerz
Hört einmal auf zu toben.
Einst wird dich schon des Glöckchens Ton
Mit deiner Qual versöhnen.
Und schweigt der Klang auch noch so lang,
Er muß doch endlich tönen!

La petite cloche résonne à travers la vallée,
Annonçant le repos pour moi :
Seulement moi, seul avec ma peine,
Je ne suis pas capable de le trouver.
Quand sonneras-tu pour moi pour mon repos
De ta petite église là-haut ?
Sois calme, mon cœur ! Chaque douleur
S'arrêtera un jour de faire rage.
Un jour le son de la petite cloche
Te réconciliera avec ta douleur.
Et comme la cloche s'est tue depuis longtemps
Elle doit sonner enfin !
