Ich weiß eine Farbe, der bin ich so hold, Die achte ich höher als Silber und Gold; Die trag' ich so gerne um Stirn und Gewand Und habe sie ,,Farbe der Wahrheit`` genannt. Wohl blühet in lieblicher, sanfter Gestalt Die glühende Rose, doch bleichet sie bald. Drum weihte zur Blume der Liebe man sie; Ihr Reiz ist unendlich, doch welket er früh. Die Bläue das Himmels strahlt herrlich und mild, D'rum gab man der Treue dies freundliche Bild. Doch trübet manch' Wölkchen den Äther so rein! So schleichen beim Treuen oft Sorgen sich ein. Die Farbe des Schnees, so strahlend und licht, Heißt Farbe der Unschuld, doch dauert sie nicht. Bald ist es verdunkelt, das blendende Kleid, So trüben auch Unschuld Verläumdung und Neid. Warum ich, so fragt ihr, der Farbe so hold Den heiligen Namen der Wahrheit gezollt? Weil flammender Schimmer von ihr sich ergießt Und ruhige Dauer sie schützend umschließt. Ihr schadet der nässende Regenguß nicht, Noch bleicht sie der Sonne verzehrendes Licht: D'rum trag' ich so gern sie um Stirn' und Gewand Und habe sie ,,Farbe der Wahrheit`` genannt.

Conec un color per al que tinc un gran encís i l'aprecio molt més que l'or o l'argent; el porto amb molt de gust al front i a la vestimenta i l'he anomenat "color de la veritat". Per bé que la flamant rosa floreixi en una bonica, dolça faiçó, aviat però empal·lideix. Per això se l'ha consagrat com la flor de l'amor; el seu encís és immens però ben prompte es marceix. La blavor del cel resplendeix esplèndida i agradosa, per això aquesta amable imatge s'associa amb la fidelitat. Però més d'un núvol enterboleix l'èter tan clar! Així també entre els fidels s'esmunyen malfiances. El color de la neu, tan resplendent i lluminós, és el color de la innocència, però no dura gaire. L'embolcall enlluernador aviat s'enfosqueix i així el bescantament i l'enveja maculen la innocència. I us preguntareu, per què jo, a aquest color tan encisador li he conferit el sagrat nom de la veritat? És perquè d'ell es desprèn un besllum flamejant i una durada reposant l'embolcalla, protegint-lo. No el perjudica la mullena d'un xàfec, ni l'abrusadora llum del sol el descoloreix: per això el porto amb molt de gust al front i a la vestimenta i l'he anomenat "color de la veritat".
