Hoch zu Pferd!
Stahl auf zartem Leibe,
Helm und Schwert
Ziemen Hauptmanns Weibe.
Tönet Trommelschlag
Unter [Pulverdampfe,]1
Siehst du blut'gen Tag
Und dein Lieb im [Kampfe]2.--
Schlagen wir den Feind,
Küssest du den Gatten,
Wohnst mit ihm vereint
In des Friedens Schatten.
Hoch zu Pferd!
Stahl auf zartem Leibe,
Helm und Schwerdt [sic]
Ziemen Hauptmanns Weibe. --

The captain’s wife
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Mount your steed!
Armour upon your delicate body,
Helmet and sword
Behoove a captain’s wife.
When the drums sound
Under the clouds of gunpowder,
You shall see the bloody day
And your beloved in the battle.
If we vanquish the enemy,
You shall kiss your spouse,
Shall live united with him
In the shadow of peace.
Mount your steed!
Armour upon your delicate body,
Helmet and sword
Behoove a captain’s wife.
