Vocal Poem—Young Man’s Journey Part Two
Language: English  after the Chinese (中文)
The young man from Wuling, east of Jinshi,
Riding the white horse with a silver saddle, enjoying the breeze.
Meandering through falling petals,
He smiles as he enters, into the tavern with the wanton woman.
Subtitle: "Young Man’s Journey II"
Translator's notes:
Line 1: Wuling and Jinshi were both located in modern day Hunan Province. Coming from Wuling
means that the young man came from a very wealthy family.
Line 2: breeze - literally: a spring wind. Figuratively: a metaphor for youthful confidence and exuberance,
living his best life, abundance
Line 4: wanton woman - like a modern day hostess at a hostess club, possibly a prostitute.
