Was er sang, das singt er wieder, Wieder tönt es ihm zurück, Süßes Echo klingt hernieder -- Keine Täuschung! -- sichres Glück! Den er sucht auf seinen Bahnen, Ach sein König ruft ihm zu; Nicht vergebens war sein Ahnen: "Suche treu, so findest du!" Heimwärts fliegt er mit der Kunde, Da war Leid und Freude groß, Fliegt zurück mit edler Runde, Kauft den teuren König los. Mirando tras la reja de hierro, al resplandor de la Luna, un trovador con su cítara ante el castillo de Dürrenstein afina su instrumento para un aire dulce y comienza así su canto, pues un presentimiento se lo dice: ¡Busca fiel y encontrarás! ¿Rey Ricardo, héroe del oeste, es verdad que has caído? ¿Oxida el mar tu espada o te cubre quizás lejana tumba? Buscándote por todas partes, tu trovador va sin descanso, pues su presentimiento le dice: ¡Busca fiel y encontrarás! Espera, Ricardo, y ten confianza, que la fidelidad me conduce y guía. Y en tu lejana tierra natal, el amor ruega en silencio por ti. Blondel sigue tu pista, Margot te espera ansiosa, y a tu ministril dice su oráculo: ¡Busca fiel y encontrarás! Escucha que suave suena desde los sótanos del castillo, un aire bien conocido que a Blondel llega al oído, como palabras de amigo que devuelven su canto, y su intuición le dice aún más fuerte: ¡Busca fiel y encontrarás! Canta otra vez lo que cantaba y el canto oye de nuevo, que el eco dulce repite, ¡no es ilusión, es dicha grande! De quien iba tras las huellas, ah, su propio rey lo llama, no fue inútil el presentimiento: “¡Busca fiel y encontrarás!”. A casa vuela con la nueva, grandes son la pena y la alegría, regresa con nutrida escolta, rescata al rey y lo libera. Y rodeado de cortesanos el rey abraza a su cantor, pues su canto fue verdad: “¡Busca fiel y encontrarás!”.
