Er wünscht sich mächtige Schwingen: Die sollten ihn ins heimische Land, Woran ihn ewige Sehnsucht mahnt, Im rauschenden Fluge bringen. »O Heimweh! unergründlicher Schmerz, Wie folterst du das junge Herz; Kann Liebe dich nicht verdrängen? So willst du die Frucht, die herrlich reift, Die Gold und flüssiger Purpur streift, Mit tödtlichem Feuer versengen? Ich liebe, ich rase -ich hab' sie gesehn. Die Lüfte durchschnitt sie im Sturmeswehn Auf löwengezogenem Wagen, Ich mußte flehn: o nimm mich mit! Mein Leben ist düster und abgeblüht; Wirst du meine Bitte versagen? El jovencell sospira damunt el mar verdós, ell arribà aquí venint d’una costa llunyana, voldria tenir unes ales poderoses que el portessin a la seva pàtria, la que l’enyorança eternament li recorda, en un vol fressós. “Oh enyorament! Patiment insondable, per què tortures aquest jove cor? L’amor no et pot foragitar? Aquest fruit que tan esplèndidament madura, acaronat d’or i de porpra líquida, el vols abrusar amb el teu foc mortal? Jo estimo, m’enfurismo, jo l’he vist, ella fendia l’aire amb un terbolí tempestuós damunt d’un carruatge portat per lleons, vaig haver de suplicar-li: oh, deixa’m anar amb tu! La meva vida és llòbrega i desflorida; vols refusar la meva petició? Ella m’esguardà amb un benèvol somriure; el tronc de lleons ens portà a Tràcia, i allà vaig estar al seu servei com sacerdot. El boig és coronat amb benaurada felicitat però l’home lúcid recula tremolant; cap déu estarà disposat a ajudar-lo.
