La caille hardie quitte le ciel de Lybie
et traverse la mer Égée orageuse.
En vain elle cherche son cruel butor
qui dans le feu de l'amour a complètement disparu.
Tandis qu'elle donne de la voix
contre l'amant fugitif et coupable,
comme un appel de Phébus me saisit
et la colère me pousse à dire contre vous :
Voyez, nos souffrances sont semblables,
elle secoue la tête et moi je trotte à pied,
elle se nourrit de mil et moi de mauvaises années.
Souvent elle cacabe, et moi je soupire tout le temps,
elle a les plumes sales et moi les vêtements déchirés,
elle adore un butor et moi une marmotte.
