Cavalcant ell passa per un estany, allà una bella pàl·lida donzella, amb la seva brusa onejant al vent, canta: passa de llarg, passa de llarg, tinc por de la criatura! Cavalcant, ell passa per un riu, allà l’esperit de les aigües el saluda, es torna a ficar a l’aigua fent molta fressa, i tot esdevé tranquil a la freda mansió. Quan el dia i la nit estan enxarxats en lluita, ja canten els galls al poble llunyà, aleshores el cavall s’estremeix i furga el terra, esbufegant, cava la seva pròpia tomba.
