Translation Singable translation by Helen Dellenbauch Tretbar (1835 - 1902)
O Jugendlust, o Jugendglück

O Joy of Youth!
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
O joy of youth, o youthful glee! You've van'ish'd far away. Ans never shall return to me That golden, blissful day! A mother's eye so true and fond, Now closed to earthly scene, Fair love's young dream, that sunny bond, Lies buried 'neath the green. The light of joy, that did but beam, For me most falsely shone; Thus faded ev'ry cherish'd dream: Despair kept faith alone! But when I gaze on Heaven's dome, On star yet smiles on me, Its radiance marks my distant home: Come! here shall thou happy be!
