Anche la Bellezza è destinata a morire! Lei che avvince uomini e dei, non riesce a commuovere l'animo ferreo di Zeus stigio. Soltanto una volta l'Amore intenerì il signore delle ombre, E tuttavia sulla soglia, spietato, reclamò indietro il suo dono. Né al fanciullo leggiadro Afrodite può sanare la ferita, che nel corpo incantevole gli ha inferto il cinghiale feroce. E neppure la madre immortale può riuscire a salvare l'eroe divino, quando, cadendo presso le porte Scee, adempie il suo fato. Ma essa sorge dal mare con tutte le Nereidi, e un lamento si leva a celebrare il figlio. Guarda, piangono gli dei, e piangono tutte le dee, perché la Bellezza svanisce, e la Perfezione muore. Ma anche essere un canto sulla bocca dell'amata, è cosa splendida, perché solo l'uomo comune scende agli inferi nel silenzio.
